Common throughout South-Western Australia, the huntsman spider is
known for their flat body and their running speed. Apart from Australia,
huntsman spider is found in the tropical and semi-tropical areas of the
world, like China, Japan, Florida and Puerto Rico.

They are known by different names in different parts of the world. While
in China, specie of huntsman spider is known as ‘Cane Spider’, in
southern Africa, it is known as ‘Rain Spider’.
Huntsman spider in Laos are very large, the males can attain a leg span
of 250-300 mm or 9.8-11.8 inches. These are generally identified by
their legs, which are joined vertically, relative to the body. The legs
are generally twisted so that they extend forward in a crab-like manner.
In addition, the colour of the huntsman spider ranges from grey to
brown.
The flattened body of the huntsman spiders helps them to fit into small
cracks and crevices. These usually reside in barns, sheds, under boards
on the ground, in sheltered areas and make frequent occurrences in
homes. Huntsman spiders do not build webs; they hunt and forage for
food. Their diet mainly consists of insects and geckos.

The lifespan of huntsman spider is about 2 years or more. The male and
the female huntsman spider usually engage in lengthy courtship for
mating. Huntsman spiders are not venomous, when bitten, a swollen and
pain around the bitten area is felt that can be healed easily.
